The American Lindsey Vonn leads also the second official training of the downhill in Cortina. With Lindsey’s at 1'37 "48, Verena Stuffer is in ranking second with a gap of 38 hundredths of a second and at 40/100 is Tina Weirather.
All the others have over one second gap.
Another test for Lindsey Vonn as she is chasing the last record that still lacks: the 10 victories in Cortina, a record that Renata Goetsschl is still holding. Lindsey is at 9 and, according to her, it is not easy at all: "In few other disciplines is difficult to win as in skiing." Then she tells a detail of this test: “I almost crashed after the jump at the Duca d'Aosta hut. Something entered in my eye, perhaps the make up, and I wasn’t able to see for a moment. I landed blindly” .
It's still a fact that Lindsey Vonn has dominated the two official trainings. And moreover, this year the downhill course set is significantly faster: last year she won here in 1'39 "61, more than two seconds less today. Tomorrow the main opponents of Vonn will be Lara Gut, Tina Weirather, Cornelia Huetter and Viktoria Rebensburg.
But Italy can hope for the podium thanks to the tests of Verena Stuffer. If today Elena Fanchini (winner in 2015) and Daniela Merighetti (Queen in 2012) are going bad, Verena has shown in both two tests to have great feeling with the Olympia delle Tofane slope. As she explains “I’m very well with such an aggressive snow. The race? I just try to stay calm and not to overdo”.
The downhill race in Cortina is scheduled tomorrow at 10.15 am and it will be broadcast live on RaiSport 1 and Eurosport.
